Rochester Chip is a monthly series of events dedicated to promoting artists and groups who use the sound chips of retro computers and video game consoles to create new original music. This exciting and often experimental form of electronic music repurposes devices such as Nintendo Gameboys and Atari 2600s as synthesizers and sequencers to create exciting new compositions in a wide array of genres.

We’re proud to announce that THIS FRIDAY (the 13th), Rochester Chip and WITR will be hosting a screening of REFORMAT THE PLANET. Check out the trailer for the film here. If you’re interested in chip music, retro gaming, video game culture, or electronic music, then you’ll enjoy this movie. Features interviews and performances by Anamanaguchi, Bit Shifter, Nullsleep, and many more!
Following the screening, we’ll be doing a chip music workshop, focusing on LSDJ, with demonstrations by local artists. No prior experience required! If you’re interested in starting to make chip music, then check this out!
Jim made this helpful map for understand where the screening is if you’re not familiar with the RIT campus. He says “The actual room is in the basement. If you follow the red dotted line to the back door of the library, you can easily find the room (which is an auditorium) by walking straight once you’re in the library.”

Subpixel performing “Meeting of the Spirits”, a cover of the classic jam by the Mahavishnu Orchestra, at the February Rochester Chip show. The intense amount of awesomeness in this video and this entire performance is difficult to even handle. The best part? When I kick the extension cord and unplug the PA mid song at 2:03. :-[
Go buy this tape now because it’s incredible - http://subpixel.bandcamp.com/album/the-wave
